DARK
NIGHT CABARET - A FAMILY AFFAIR
City Theatre's Dark Night Series on July 18th
July 2000
Tuesday, July 5th at 8 PM at City Theatre's
Hamburg Studio, the Dark Night Cabaret will feature the work
of two members of the Long family. Host for the evening, Dave
Long, has been performing and playing music in the city and
the Mid-Atlantic area for the last three years. He plays
plays mandolin with Coal Train and also
writes reviews for the online magazine ibluegrass. His
brother, photographer Rob Long will present the slide show, "Art
Documenta," later in the evening.
Poetologist/word pimp Jason Mink, invites
you to "hear
the subtle verbal undulations of mr. mink the deadbeat dynamo." He
will be reading his poem, "Kinzie's Tale."
On display are dinosaurs and other exotic creatures created
by artist Gene Fenton who produces his creatures with a low tech
approach that
is high on inventiveness. Gene's work has been exhibited
at The Three Rivers Arts;festival, Studio Z, and Mountain Top
Art Gallery/Cresson Art Gallery.
Andrew Lasswell, comedic parody/life/music,
will perform new takes on popular unmodern songs, in a style "so funny it
hurts, which in turns;heals." Lasswell currently runs
the Circus Apocalypse Sideshow as a Human Marvel.
Photographer Rob Long will present the
slide show "Art
Documenta, which he describes as, "editorial portraiture
of creative people." He has
been photographing artists and documenting their work in this
ongoing series. Long's work has appeared most recently
in International Design and on the cover of Sculpture Magazine.
The urban tribal trance groove of local
wonders Soma Mestizo will wrap up the evening's festivities.

225. The Dark Night Cabaret,
held in City Theatre's Lester Hamburg Studio Theatre, is a collaborative
program between City Theatre and the local arts community to
facilitate the development of new work. The producers include
Alison Babusci, Liz Hammond, Kellee Van Aken, and Mark Whitehead.
