It is obvious from the sidewalk that
Studio Z is ready for a good time. The South Side gallery's
26th anniversary exhibition, "25 +1," beckons to passerbys with Gene
Fenton's gnarly, colorful papier-maché dinosaurs twisting
and grimacing in one window, while
William Wessel's wire heads float in the air in the other.
The two works are bound by a sense of fun, a wild glee, and
many of the pieces in this wide-ranging show follow suit.
For this exhibition, artist and owner Kathleen
Zimbicki invited a selection of artists who have shown at the
gallery over the years, and the result is an eclectic and witty
mix of paintings, sculptures and various objects and assemblages...
