Artist
Gene Fenton creates sculptures by molding paper
mache into unique artforms resembling dinosaurs, insects, and
combinations of the two. This fine artist from Indiana, Pennsylvania
holds a degree in sculpture and printmaking from IUP and a master's
degree in sculpture from Long Island University. Regional galleries
and art expositions have been haunted by Fenton's weird sculpture
quite often. "Sometimes I am going
for the deliberate 'hokum' look, like in B-movies," he
says. "You
know, like the guy in the rubber octopus suit in The Green Slime.
In cases like that, I'm not taking the piece, or myself, too seriously."

What
the press has to say about Fenton's bizarre creations:
"He's not exactly Dr. Frankenstein, but papier mache sculptor Gene Fenton
creates fantastic monsters."- The
Dominion Post.
"Today's filmmakers spend millions on computers to summon dinosaurs from
the prehistoric past and set them loose in theaters around the world. Gene
Fenton, on the other hand, chooses to produce dinosaurs and other exotic creatures
with an approach that although low-tech is high on inventiveness." -Pittsburgh
Tribune Review.
"Looking as if theyve just plodded off the set of a classic monster
movie, the creatures in Gene Fentons menagerie are colorful, fantastic
- and intentionally a little disturbing." -Small
Town Life Magazine.
"Gene Fenton has a knack for doing things with tissue paper the rest of
us wouldn't even think of." - The
Indiana Gazette.
